Sol Coast Construction supplies and installs the Australian-made Kimberley KSV300 solar roof ventilator in Nambour and the surrounding suburbs, on Colorbond and tiled roofs, from $900 installed. It runs on sunlight, so it works hardest when your roof is hottest, and it goes into the same opening as most whirlybirds. Licensed carpenter, QBCC licensed and insured, Kimberley warranty of 24 months on the motor and 5 years on the chassis, fixed written quote before any work starts.

Why Nambour roofs need a powered vent
Nambour is far enough inland that the coast's saving grace, the afternoon sea breeze, rarely makes it over the hills. Summer afternoons in Nambour, Woombye, Palmwoods and Yandina are hotter and stiller than at the beach, and a still afternoon is the one condition a whirlybird cannot handle: with no wind it does not turn, and the roof cavity climbs past 60 °C and holds it into the night.
That is why the hinterland is where a solar ventilator pays back fastest. The Kimberley KSV300 runs on the sun that is cooking the roof, so a windless 35 °C afternoon is exactly when it is at full speed. The thermostat starts it at about 28 °C in the cavity and stops it at about 20 °C, so it also stays off on the cool hinterland nights.
The homes are a mix of high-set timber homes with tin roofs on sloping blocks, brick-and-tile homes from the 70s and 80s, and newer Colorbond builds on the estates. Tin roofs heat fastest; tile roofs hold the heat longest. Both are routine installs, and the high-set homes are done from a fall-restraint system without scaffolding.

The Kimberley KSV300 in brief
- Runs on sunlight. Brushless DC motor on a built-in solar panel, no wiring, no running cost. The optional AC model adds mains power for night running.
- Thermostat controlled. Starts at about 28 °C in the roof cavity, stops at about 20 °C, so it never pulls warmth out in winter.
- Covers up to 240 m² of floor area under the roof. Larger homes take two.
- Built for the coast. Galvanised chassis, tempered-glass panel, nylon fan, IP68 motor. Black or white, same price.
- Whirlybird swap. Fits the existing opening when the whirlybird faces north; otherwise we fit it on the north slope and close or cap the old opening. The old unit leaves with us at no extra cost.
- Warranty. Kimberley: 24 months on the motor, 5 years on the chassis. Sol Coast warrants the workmanship.

Nambour solar roof ventilation questions
Nambour is hotter than the coast. Does one unit cope?
Short answer: Yes for most homes. One KSV300 covers up to 240 square metres of floor area under the roof; large or high-set homes with a garage cavity may take two.
Detailed: Heat is the unit's fuel. On a still, bright hinterland afternoon the fan is at full speed, which is when a whirlybird is doing nothing. For a large home, or one that needs a garage or bathroom ducted as well, we quote a second unit.
Can you install on a high-set tin roof in Nambour?
Short answer: Yes. On a corrugated roof the flashing slides under the ridge capping and the unit is screwed to the battens and sealed, worked from a fall-restraint system.
Detailed: High-set homes on sloping blocks are common around Nambour, Woombye and Burnside and need no scaffolding on your lawn. The unit goes on the north-facing slope and the old whirlybird, if there is one, leaves with us at no extra cost.
Do you cover Woombye, Palmwoods, Yandina and the range?
Short answer: Yes. Nambour, Woombye, Palmwoods, Yandina, Bli Bli, Montville and Mapleton are all part of our regular run.
Detailed: Sol Coast Construction installs across the Sunshine Coast from Gympie to Bribie Island, and the hinterland towns are no further for us than the beach suburbs. Tell us your town when you enquire and we will quote from your details.
Hinterland nights stay warm in summer. Can it run after dark?
Short answer: The standard KSV300 stops at dusk. The KSV300 AC model blends in mains power as the light drops and keeps running on mains at night, with a remote and a timer.
Detailed: On a warm, still hinterland night the roof cavity can hold its heat for hours. The AC model plugs into a standard 413 socket in the roof space, the same socket a downlight uses, and an electrician can provide one if there is not one nearby.
