Sol Coast Construction supplies and installs the Australian-made Kimberley KSV300 solar roof ventilator in Maroochydore and the surrounding suburbs, on Colorbond and tiled roofs, from $900 installed. It runs on sunlight, so it works hardest when your roof is hottest, and it goes into the same opening as most whirlybirds. Licensed carpenter, QBCC licensed and insured, Kimberley warranty of 24 months on the motor and 5 years on the chassis, fixed written quote before any work starts.

Why Maroochydore roofs need a powered vent
Maroochydore sits on flat coastal land between the Maroochy River and the beach, with very little shade over the rooftops. The sea breeze is real, but on many summer days it does not arrive until late afternoon, and by then the roof cavity has been cooking since mid-morning. A whirlybird waits for that breeze. A Kimberley KSV300 does not: it runs on the same sun that is heating the roof, so it is working hardest at the hottest part of the day.
The housing stock is a mix. The brick-and-tile homes of the 1970s and 80s across Maroochydore, Kuluin and Alexandra Headland have big, deep roof spaces that hold a lot of hot air and, in a humid coastal winter, a lot of moisture. The newer homes at Sunshine Cove and Maroochy Waters are Colorbond, low-pitched and often dark, which heats the cavity even faster. Both benefit from active ventilation, and both are routine installs for us.
Salt air is the other Maroochydore factor. The KSV300 has a galvanised steel chassis, a nylon fan and a sealed IP68 brushless motor, so it is built for a coastal roof.

The Kimberley KSV300 in brief
- Runs on sunlight. Brushless DC motor on a built-in solar panel, no wiring, no running cost. The optional AC model adds mains power for night running.
- Thermostat controlled. Starts at about 28 °C in the roof cavity, stops at about 20 °C, so it never pulls warmth out in winter.
- Covers up to 240 m² of floor area under the roof. Larger homes take two.
- Built for the coast. Galvanised chassis, tempered-glass panel, nylon fan, IP68 motor. Black or white, same price.
- Whirlybird swap. Fits the existing opening when the whirlybird faces north; otherwise we fit it on the north slope and close or cap the old opening. The old unit leaves with us at no extra cost.
- Warranty. Kimberley: 24 months on the motor, 5 years on the chassis. Sol Coast warrants the workmanship.

Maroochydore solar roof ventilation questions
Will salt air damage a solar roof ventilator in Maroochydore?
Short answer: No. The KSV300 has a galvanised chassis, a nylon fan and a sealed IP68 motor, and Kimberley warrants the chassis for 5 years.
Detailed: Coastal roofs are exactly what the unit is built for. The panel is tempered glass and the fan is nylon, so there are no painted steel blades to rust, and the brushless motor has no bearings to seize.
How many units does a 1980s brick-and-tile home in Maroochydore need?
Short answer: Usually one. A single KSV300 covers up to 240 square metres of floor area under the roof.
Detailed: Most single-storey brick-and-tile homes in Maroochydore, Kuluin and Alexandra Headland sit well inside that. A larger home, or one with a separate garage roof, may take two, and we quote that from your details.
Isn't the sea breeze enough for a whirlybird in Maroochydore?
Short answer: Not on the days that matter. The breeze often arrives late in the afternoon, after the roof has been heating for hours.
Detailed: A whirlybird only moves air when the wind blows; a solar ventilator moves it whenever the sun shines. On a still, hot morning the whirlybird is idle and the KSV300 is at full speed. In winter the KSV300's thermostat keeps it off below about 20 °C so it does not pull warmth out, which a whirlybird does every windy night.
Do you install on the new Colorbond homes at Sunshine Cove?
Short answer: Yes. On Colorbond the flashing slides up under the ridge capping and the unit is screwed to the battens and sealed.
Detailed: Low-pitch, dark Colorbond roofs on the newer estates heat up quickly and have little shade, so a KSV300 does a lot of work there. The unit comes in black or white at the same price, so it can match a light roof tone instead of standing out on it.
